Blood moon - What is a blood moon?
In this video, I discuss what is a blood moon. Blood moon or red moon occurs during a total lunar eclipse which is when sun, earth and the moon all align themselves in a straight line with earth in the middle. During this alignment earth blocks out all the light going from the sun to the moon because earth is between the sun and the moon. The only sunlight that reaches the moon is the sunlight that goes through the earth's atmosphere and hits the moon. We know that sunlight is white in color meaning it consists of all the colors of the rainbow so when sunlight enters the earth's atmosphere, all the sunlight gets scattered or trapped except for red light. So red light is the only one that exits the earth's atmosphere and reaches the moon making it red. Why only red light goes through? Well, because it has the longest light wave out of all the colors of the rainbow. And the longer the light wave, the less likely to scatter or get trapped in the atmosphere. To understand this  concept of waves better, please visit my other video called " What color is the sun?"
