After the box office smash of Dracula in 1931, Warner Brothers decided to outdo Universal in terms of shock value.

Doctor X was filmed entirely on 2-strip Technicolor. Whereas vivid red and green colours were usually avoided for any movies when using 2-strip film, director Michael Curtiz cleverly, exploited the use of these strong colours to give the movie an extra creepy feeling.

It was expensive, inconvenient and needed intense hot lighting to be used, but the finished product was well worth the investment of time and money.
