Great Spotted Woodpeckers have been regulars in my garden for a few years, fortunately this year they decided to nest in an old ash tree opposite the house. They had it quite easy this year as they were collecting mealworms from the garden and the time when the chicks were getting larger coincided with the mayfly hatch. My robin was with me in the garden and at the nest when filming and had to get in on the act. The second part shows the juvenile as it starts to get the characteristic male red spot at the back of its head.
