Gingivitis is an extremely common
Gingivitis is an extremely common condition that causes bleeding gums, swelling or inflamed gums, and often painful gum tissue. What most people don't know about Gingivitis is that it is actually one of the early stages of a much more serious disease called Periodontitis, otherwise known as gum disease.
2 Different Kinds of Gingivitis:
1. Plaque induced Gingivitis is the most common and is caused by lack of oral hygiene and proper home care.
2. Non-plaque induced Gingivitis can be viral, systemic, or caused by local factors such as chemicals.
Bleeding gums can be an early sign of Periodontitis which is a very serious condition that can lead to bone loss in your jaw as well as potential tooth loss if not taken care of quickly.
If the Gingivitis is causing your painful and inflamed gums, the good news is it can be stopped by taking good care of your teeth and gums at home! Proper brushing and flossing techniques are critical for improving the health of your gum tissue.
