In an exclusive interview with the ABC, Dr Anthony Fauci, known these days at the face of the fight against COVID in the US, remembers the early days of the battle against HIV that he led.

This year marks forty years since the condition which came to be known as Aids was discovered on the west coast of the United States.

Since the discovery, there have been great advances in science and treatment, but at least thirty-five million people have died in that time.
