Many companies in India and abroad are exploring the hybrid work culture model in which employees will be asked to work from office only for a few days in the week and from home on others. Tata Consultancy Services which earlier announced that it plans to 70-80% of its employees back to office by 2021-end or start of 2022 may move to hybrid model eventually.
TCS’ mandate that employees report to the office at least three days a week has caused two negative outcomes for the tech giant. Will it go to 5 days per week as compulsory?

Bengaluru IT companies suffered a lost of ₹225 crore on August 30 as their employees were stuck in the traffic for around five hours, the Outer Ring Road Companies Association has written to chief minister Basavaraj Bommai. The poor infrastructure of the ORR has now reached a crisis level, they said in the letter. “It is estimated that over a half a million people are employed on the Outer Ring Road stretch, starting from Krishnarajapuram to the Central Silk Board area in Bengaluru. The 17 km stretch is also providing direct and indirect employment to over a million people and has a great contribution to the economy of the state. It is appalling that there is no focus on the development of infrastructure in this particular area. The recent collapse of Bengaluru’s infrastructure is now a global concern and is also questions the growth of the city," it said.
The association has also feared that the companies might seek an alternative destination if the situation remains the same.
Under the company’s 25X5 vision for 2025, only 25% of its almost half-a-million global workforce will be in office locations at any point in time, with associates spending only 25% of their time in the office. And within project teams, only 25% of employees can be co-located.
TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan first highlighted its 25x25 or 25/25 plan during company’s FY20 annual report. He has spoken about it since on multiple occasions.
