Benito Mussolini was the fascist
Benito Mussolini was the fascist dictator of Italy who took his country into the Second World War. Mussolini was closely tied to Hitler and Nazi Germany during the war as they formed part of the Axis Alliance. But ultimately Mussolini was deposed by parts of the Italian government and he was arrested, before being freed in the Gran Sasso raid. He was placed in control of a Nazi puppet state by Hitler, but then he fled Milan as the Allies advanced throughout Italy. After joining a Luftwaffe convoy heading towards Germany, Mussolini was captured and was in partisan custody.
An execution order was then given, and Walter Audisio a Partisan commander was given the job as the executioner of Mussolini and his mistress Clara Petacci. At the side of a road near Lake Como, Mussolini was executed and then his remains were taken to Milan and they were displayed in front of a huge crowd.
