It’s been over two months since violence gripped Manipur. More than 120 people have lost their lives, several injured, thousands displaced, homeless, and many have picked up guns. NTT visited a frontline in Kangpopki district where civilians have chosen guns over their careers. Carefully nestled in the nooks and crannies of the mighty mountains and loaded with arms and ammunition, they have set up secret bunkers, away from common sight. People constantly monitoring the movement on the other side, restricting the entry of outsiders, and vigilant of every little development. There are forces, police deployed, but these people aren’t scared, not even to disclose their identities.  All agree that peace cannot come from the barrel of a gun but none willing to surrender their weapons as of now. There were young children too at the frontline camp. They are scared and want to get back to school but unsure when and how.

Note: Team NTT does not endorse violence in any form. We do not endorse unlawful ownership and use of guns, nor do we owe allegiance to any community. NTT ardently believes in peace, brotherhood and harmony.
Location – as disclosed by the people.
