Beaverton Police Department Crosswalk Safety

The focus of this Public Service Announcement is on drivers who fail to stop and remain stopped for pedestrians in a crosswalk. The department is reminding drivers that it's your lane plus 6 feet. That means: stop for the pedestrian, and they must clear the lane you're turning into, plus at least 6 feet of the next lane, before you can proceed. Drivers need to keep this in mind as well: the department is using decoy pedestrians to raise the awareness of drivers and pedestrians through education and enforcement of pedestrian right-of-way laws. Drivers who receive citations are given the option of taking a crosswalk diversion program hosted by the Beaverton Police Department.
