As we come to the close of women's history month, we are going to highlight and say the na mes of a few black women whose lives were tragically taken  due to the cruelty and racism of the times. Today we’re going to say their names so that we remember what was done to them and as a memorial that their lives were not lost in vain. These women’s lives mattered at a time when hostile mobs took the lives of thousands of Black men and women just because of the color of their skin. These people were without sanctuary in a country that promised freedom, but did not deliver for some. For generations of Black women, racial terror included the constant threat of sexual assault and a complete lack of legal protection.

We say the names of six young Black women: Marie Scott, Jennie Steers, Laura Nelson and her son L.D., Mary Turner, Maggie and Alma Howse (House), out of the 159 Black women who were lyn**** between 1889 and 1957. Lest we forget!
