This video is a demonstration of the McMurray Test. The purpose of the McMurray Test is to test for a potential Medial or Lateral Meniscal Tear in the knee where a positive test could indicate a Compromised Meniscus.

With your patient supine, place one hand at their knee joint and your other hand on their lower leg to test their knee’s range of motion in flexion and extension. Then, place their knee into maximal flexion.

To test the medial meniscus, place a valgus stress to the knee and laterally rotate the tibia while extending the knee.
To test the lateral meniscus, place a varus stress to the knee and medially rotate the tibia while extending the knee.

A positive finding would be pain or an audible click, which may indicate a Torn Medial or Lateral Meniscus depending on the rotational bias applied to the knee during the test. A positive finding would be pain, snapping, an audible clicking or locking that can indicate a Compromised Meniscus.
