Patients with primary snoring or sleep apnea are often referred to Otolaryngologists when PAP therapy or oral appliance therapy is not successful or well tolerated. The current treatment options and the role for a novel non-surgical option for these patients will be discussed.



Learning Objectives:
- Review the epidemiology and mechanism of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea
- Discuss which patients with sleep disordered breathing symptoms typically present to the Otolaryngologist and the limitations of current treatment options for this population
- Discuss the role of neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy (eXciteOSA therapy) as a non-surgical treatment option for snoring and sleep apnea.


Speaker Biography:
Dr. Sharon Morong is an Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeon, certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, subspecializing in Sleep Medicine and Sleep Diagnostics. She is a Lecturer in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto. During her career, she has received numerous awards, published multiple peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on Sleep Medicine and Sleep Surgery, and has spoken on national and international platforms about Drug Induced Sleep Endoscopy. She is now the Director of the Sleep Endoscopy Centre for Snoring and Sleep Apnea, with a special focus on CPAP alternative treatment options for patients with sleep apnea.
