This is the 4th of my Taiwan Campus Folk uploads, and the definitive one. Chyi sings one of Ye Jiaxiu's masterpieces. Yet another special singer, and also a very special person. This was one of the genre's first hits, and encapsulates everything that the movement stood for, with the vocals, accompaniment, and lyrics. You can see several shots of Ye Jiaxiu throughout the video.
Chyi was born on October 17, 1957 in Taichung, Taiwan, the elder sister of Taiwanese singer songwriter Chyi Chin齊秦. She studied at National Taiwan University Department of Anthropology. Countryside Paths was her first recording in 1978, and was included on volume one of the campus folk ballad wind. The following year she released her first album, which included her best known song, The Olive Tree.
Chyi has gone on to achieve many awards and hits, and is a practicing Buddhist. One of her many ventures outside music was in 1997, when she was invited to serve as the "World Vision" 1997 Hunger Ambassador, on behalf of Taiwan Asia, going to Africa to visit refugees. She says that the most memorable moment is life is a child receiving its first haircut. Well, Chyi, this is a memorable song!
