Chhoti Bahen ( Younger sister) is a 1959 Hindi-film that stars Nanda in the title role, Balraj Sahni and Rehman. It is a remake of the 1952 Tamil film En Thangai.
Chhoti Bahen is 1959 Bollywood (Hindi Language) Drama film. Chhoti Bahen is directed by Prasad Rao and produced by Prasad Rao and the story is written by Inder Raj Anand. Its star cast are Balraj Sahni, Nanda & Rehman in the lead roles. Movie was a remake of Tamil film "En Thangai", released in 1952. Film did very well at Indian box office and also recovered its total budget and made good amount of profit. It was the eighth highest grossing Indian film of 1959.
Storyline :-
Chhoti Bahen is a 1959 Hindi film that stars Nanda in the title role, and Balraj Sahni, Rehman. The film was remade in Telugu as Aada Paduchu with Shoban Babu
Chhoti Bahen is the story about the delicate but powerful bond of love. Rajendra (balraj sahni)and Shekhar (rehman)lose their parents, and the all they have is each other, and their younger sister Meena(baby nanda). Though in love, Rajendra swears that he will not marry till his younger brother and sister are settled. Shekhar falls in love with a rich girl Shobha(shyama). Meanwhile, Meena's marriage is fixed. Misfortune strikes when Meena meets with an accident and is blinded forever. Shekhar, pressed on by an impatient Shobha, marries her and they go away to live with her rich father. Rajendra loses his job. To support his poor blind sister, he is desperate for a job.
Rajendra lives a poor lifestyle along with his younger collegian brother, Shekhar, as well a younger sister, Meena. He is in love with a school-teacher, and both hope to get married after Meena and Shekhar's marriages. Luck shines upon them and Meena's marriage is arranged with Dr. Ramesh(sudesh kumar), while Shekhar decides to wed Shobha, the only daughter of a wealthy man obsessed with horse-racing. Rajendra mortgages his house with his paternal uncle. Then things turn sour after Meena loses her vision; the wedding gets canceled, and Rajendra is humiliated by Ramesh's dad. Rajendra decides to remain single to look after Meena, and permits Shekhar and Shobha to get married. The marriage takes place, and Shobha moves in. Shortly thereafter misunderstandings crop, lead to arguments with Shekhar and Shobha moving out to live with Shobha's dad. Then Rajendra is fired from his job, his paternal uncle takes over the house, and asks him to leave. Homeless, they turn to Shekhar for help, but he refuses to assist them in any way. Then Rajendra falls ill and gets separated from his sister, while Shekhar takes to horse-racing and alcohol, and a path that will only lead to self-destruction....
