Stucco ratios of sand to Portland cement. How much sand do you mix for stucco? Hello, our plastering enthusiast; in this video, We are explaining the sand-to-cement ratio in Stucco, which is usually three parts sand for every one part of Portland cement plaster. Yes, it's always the same, even now in 2024. This is not etched in stone. However, most plastering companies follow this and add or substrate whatever they feel is the best for different coats. Stucco is the technical term used for exterior plastering, and Plaster is the technical term for interior plastering. You apply the first coat, then put horizontal scratch lines in this coat so the following coat will bond by suction and embed in the scratch marks. The brown coat is applied over the scratch coat to prepare the plaster base for the finish coat application. The three coats consist of two base coats and one finish coat. The first base coat is a scratch coat, and the second is a brown coat. Two-coat work has a single base coat and a finish coat. Technically, scratch coats are mixed at 1 part cement to 2-1/4 to 4 parts sand, and brown coats are mixed at 1 part cement to 3 to 5 parts sand.
