The city of Porto lies
The city of Porto lies on a hill next to the river Douro and contains many historical locations.
The Sé, the cathedral, is a fortified church from the twelfth century built according to Romanesque outline. Two towers, high walls with its defences and a rosette window on the west wall. Renovations in the 18th century changed the appearance so much that there is no longer talk of a coherent whole. The history of Porto goes back more than 800 years, a good reason to preserve its heritage for future generations. Officially designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Site, this site is to be safeguarded for the future as a testimony to its enduring past.
In the tv-series Heritage Sites of the World we visit 26 locations. Each location featured is considered to be unique of universal value for all mankind. Officially designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Site, each one is to be safeguarded for the future as a testimony to its enduring past.
