The multi-talented MICHAEL PALIN established his reputation as a founding member of Monty Pythonís Flying Circus, whose television series, films and the individual creative efforts of its cast altered the course of comedy and influenced generations of writers, artists and filmmakers all over the world. In 1988, with the BBC series Around the World in 80 Days, Michael also began to change the face of the TV travel format.
Over the following 24 years Michael produced seven more highly successful series for the BBC; which saw him travel from the North to the South Pole in Pole to Pole; circumnavigate the Pacific Rim in Full Circle; retrace the footsteps of his hero Ernest in Hemingway Adventure; cross the greatest desert in Sahara; traverse the worldís highest mountain range in Himalaya; explore newly independent post-Soviet countries in New Europe and most recently, a journey through Brazil.
Hong Kong - born photographer BASIL PAO accompanied Michael on all these epic journeys, documenting the action for the books that accompanied each of the series. The images in this exhibition represent some of the most memorable moments in their 24 years of travelling the world together.
The original exhibition, Travels with Michael Palin, was first presented at the Fox Talbot Museum in Lacock, Wiltshire - the birthplace of photography in England where William Henry Fox Talbot first invented the calotype process in the 1840s.
