"The Power of Gold" was written by Dan Fogelberg in 1978 and is the tenth and last track off of Fogleberg's release with Tim Weisberg...Twin Sons of Different Mothers. The album was the first of Fogelberg's two collaborations with jazz flautist Tim Weisberg with the second being...No Resemblance Whatsoever.

"The Power of Gold" simply tells the tale of the allure of money...and its appeal to our public...both familial and that through friendship. The initial lines are sung through some sort of reflection which are merely there to remind us that money has been an issue for centuries as we hear..."The story is told of the power of gold and its lure on the unsuspecting...It glitters and shines, it badgers and blinds and constantly needs protecting".And constantly needs protecting...words of advice that has never left our imagination. As the song progresses,we learn that money can be a burden..."The letters and calls got you climbing the walls and everyone wants a favor...They beg to remind you of times left behind you but you know the past is a loser".But the past is a loser...you figure it out."The Power of Gold" progresses along this pattern but ends with a bid towards women when you hear the repeated song's ending as..."The women are lovely, the wine is superb...but there's something about the song that disturbs you".What is it about the song that disturbs you?Hmmm...could it be the population of women that simply will entertain any man...if the price is right.I don't know...you tell me.Dan Fogelberg was married three times. He had no children by any of his marriages. In May of 2004,Fogelberg was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and passed away in December of 2007.Dan Fogelberg was 56 years old.
