Aveiro the Portuguese Venice!
Aveiro is a Portuguese coastal city founded on a lagoon known as the Ria de Aveiro.
The historic center of Aveiro is cut by a few canals, fewer than Venice, but enough to give the place a particular charm. The city is known for its canals navigated by colorful boats, called moliceiros, which were traditionally used to harvest seaweed.
The city is also known for its art nouveau style buildings. The city of Aveiro is close to Porto and Coimbra and near the sea. It has beaches, art  nouveau buildings, great seafood restaurants and very pleasant walks.
The colorful little houses of Costa Nova are beautiful and deserve several photos.
They are close to Costa Nova beach, which is very popular with surfers. The long stretch of clear sand and a few beach kiosks guarantee hours of relaxation by the sea.
As the story goes, fishermen who lived in the area began to paint their homes so that they would be recognizable from afar when they returned from the sea. Today, some of the wooden buildings are still homes; others have become restaurants and more touristy establishments.
Another beach in Aveiro is Praia da Barra, which is famous for its lighthouse, one of the tallest in Portugal, and for being the place where the Ria de Aveiro meets the sea. So, as well as a strip of sand and cool water to enjoy on hot days, you can also enjoy the movement of boats coming in and out of the estuary and watch the surfers and windsurfers.
Visiting Aveiro's salt pans is also a great way to get to know the salt from Aveiro, one of the most famous in the world.
And its production is very old, even older than the country itself. So there's no doubt about it: it's an ideal place to visit a salt pan. Several of them offer guided tours, with explanations of the history and processes of salt production and even baths in the salty waters.
Two of the best-known salt pans are Marinha da Noeirinha and Marinha
da Passagem.

Aveiro is also a must-see for strolling through the historic center and eating the famous Ovos Moles and other typical sweets of the city. Inaugurated in 2018, the Aveiro Walkways are also a great option for those who have more time in the city and want to be close to nature.
They are a 7.5-kilometer wooden path (or twice as long if you consider the round trip) that can be walked or cycled. This route highlights the Ria, this extensive estuary considered by many to be one of the most beautiful
spots on the Portuguese coast, with its rich flora and fauna.
Those who have seen the sunset there say it's incredible! Aveiro is a city that combines history, culture and nature in a unique way. So get your camera ready and come and be enchanted by its stunning landscapes and authentic charm.
