Hi there!

If you're teaching a child to ski it's nice to know that there are multiple ways to slow down on skis (that don't include just falling over).

The first is the wedge, also known as pizza slice, triangle or big feet. The wedge is the first speed control skill taught to young skiers because it can help them stop when they need to.

The second way to slow down on skis is what every skier should do - S turns. With beginners the S turn will have a stretched out middle so there's a lot of skiing across the hill.

Finally, you can slow your skiing by skiing uphill just a little bit. This isn't a beginner skill unless you count skiing uphill onto a snow bank, but it is still a way to slow down on skis.

This video can help you teach your child some skiing basics. But there's so much more to learn! That's why I created a whole online course about skiing with kids.

In the Mountain Mom Ski School course you'll get all the tips and tricks you'll need to help your never ever skier safely get down the slopes.
