This is another video in my series “Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I visit the pretty village of Cheriton & explore the surrounding countryside.
My 4.5 mile circular route starts & finishes in the village which is situated 7 miles East of Winchester. After looking at the church, the delightful village green & some beautiful thatched buildings I head off into the countryside, passing the historic Cheriton House.
From the ridge along Upper Lamborough Lane I get to enjoy some stunning views across the valley – which was the location of the Battle of Cheriton in 1644 (one of the first major victories for the Parliamentary Army against the Royalists).
Passing alongside Cheriton Woods, I find the memorial to the battle on the Northern side of the battlefield before heading West back towards the village. I temporarily leave the South Downs National Park as my journey takes me North along the Wayfarers Walk and then Westwards again to meet up with an old friend – the enchanting River Itchen. There I pass by Cheriton Mill & Logan gets an opportunity for a dip in the River before returning to our starting point at the village green.
Finally, I get into my car and drive about a mile or so South, over the A272, to film the final scene in the video – the actual source of the River Itchen itself.

I use a GOPRO HERO 7 Black Action Camera (sometimes with a Gimbal) & a Rode microphone (either a “Shotgun” or a Rode Wireless Go) together with a Canon Powershot SX530 HS.
