Join me on my solo trip to Gangneung!
This Monday was Hangeul Day, so we had a long weekend. Soooo I spontaneously decided to book a trip out to Gangneung to spend it well!
Gangneung is a city on the east coast of the peninsula famous for tofu, coffee, and potato dishes (mainly pancakes and dumpling soup). As for sightseeing, you can’t go wrong with the wonderful beaches along the entire city, which are always lined with beautiful pine trees.
I took an express bus out of Seoul, which took about 3 hours to get to Gangneung. Because I was a student, my ticket was discounted to 17,800 won (~$13). I also took the Express Bus back to Seoul, although if you want to save some time, take in KTX is a reliable option as well. It’s only an estimate hour to 90 minutes faster, though so I was okay with a longer bus ride to sleep during 😉
If you’re not too happy about walking during your trips, Gangneung may not be the city for you, unless you want to pay for a taxi to go anywhere. In my experience traveling Korea thus far, I’d say that Gangneung had the lesser reliable and frequent public transportation, so I planned my days so I could walk if I needed to.
Overall, I had such a refreshing nearly three full days in Gangneung. The beaches were lovely, the food was great, and I just spend a lot of time taking in the ocean breeze. Highly recommend it for anyone in the mood for a beach town getaway!
I tried to change things up this video and spend more time talking on camera than communicating entirely through captions. Though I'll admit that the audio quality was not great, I like that this gave me more opportunities to express my personality (which includes rants about tofu in the US lol), but it's also a different challenge to caption myself speaking. Let me know if you have any feedback!
