Dr. Ashish Mittal who is Director Consultant & chief orthopedic surgeon at The Royal orthopedic hospital and sports injury center, Jaipur is explaining Non-union of fractured bones in this video.
He talks in detail about the causes, after-effect, and treatment of Non-union of bones after a fracture. He explains why bone doesn’t get attached again and if this happens what should be done. There are various reasons for it but the major reason is loss of bone marrow or multiple fractures in a single bone.
There are some bones in our body in which non – union rate is higher like scaphoid bone, ankle bone and femur bone of the hip as blood supply to these bones is less. Consumption of alcohol and tobacco is also considered to be the reason for the non-union of bones.
Patients suffering from chronic diseases like diabetes, deficiency of vitamin D, anemia, etc. also suffer from non-union of bones due to which they suffer from pain, swelling, and pus discharge.
To fill the gap between the bones, a bone graft is used which is taken from the hip joint along with a side of the pelvis. Patients should not take artificial bone grafts as they are inferior in quality.
In some cases, bone marrow injection or PRP injections are also used during the surgery. If you are suffering from this problem you can send your reports to our WhatsApp No. or Call us directly for a consultation.
