A clutch is a mechanical
A clutch is a mechanical device which is fitted between the engine and the gearbox to engage and disengage the power to facilitate the gear change and also move the vehicle smooth and progressive from rest.
The gears in the transmission system are rotating at a high rpm thus engaging a gear in this moving situation will damage the system.Inorder to have a smooth gear shift we have to cut off the power to the transmission.
Clutch helps to cut off the power to transmission without killing the engine.When we press the clutch pedal the clutch disc get disengaged from the flywheel thus cutting off the power to the transmission thus allowing a smooth gear shift and help us to stop our vehicle without shutting off the engine.
Wihout the clutch, shifting gears becomes much more laborious and damaging for your transmission. Even if you have very precise timing in your shifts, you will still put more strain on your transmission. If your timing is off, you’ll damage your gears as well. To play it safe, just use your clutch and gearbox as intended.
Flywheel connected to the engine and clutch to the transmission.A pressure plate push the clutch disc against the flywheel.This locks the engine to the transmission input shaft,thus allowing it to spin at the same speed- power transmitted from the engine to gearbox via clutch.Thus pressing the clutch pedal disengaging the clutch disc from the flywheel thus cutting off the power to transmission.
