Takotsubo Syndrome (Broken Heart Syndrome)

Patients with Takotsubo Syndrome may present with sudden heart failure, or they may present with sudden chest pains which may mimic a heart attack. Takotsubo Syndrome is also known as 'Broken Heart Syndrome' or 'Stress Cardiomyopathy'. 20% of the patients with Takotsubo Syndrome can present very unwell requiring hospitalization in the ICU or Coronary Care Unit, needing treatment for heart failure.
