The giving of Red Envelopes is one of the biggest traditions of the Chinese New Year celebration. Red Envelopes are traditionally given by older, married couples to younger, single family and friends. The envelopes contain money inside as a way of wishing prosperity among the recipient. The recipient in turn wishes prosperity to the giver by saying "恭禧发财" (Gong Xi Fa Cai).
