High fructose corn syrup, or HFCS, is a popular choice of sweetener for many processed foods and drinks. But what are the effects of consuming too much sugar? This video explores the health risks of HFCS.

High-fructose corn syrup isn’t all that different from sugar. The two most common forms contain either 42% or 55% fructose, as well as glucose and water. Regular sugar is 50% fructose and 50% glucose.  

Compared with regular sugar, it’s cheaper and sweeter, and is more quickly absorbed into your body. But eating too much high fructose corn syrup can lead to insulin resistance, obesity, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure
