In this week's video, I am taking you into the Chippewa National Forest near the eastern shores of Lake Winnibigoshish. Earlier this year I was cruising the forest roads on my e-bike when I came across this remote dispersed campsite. The campfire was still burning, food was scattered in the surrounding brush, and there was dirty toilet paper littered all over the place. It was a beautiful campsite destroyed by irresponsible lazy people. I cleaned up the site that day and said I would be back to enjoy its beauty.
I had another 3-day weekend with goals of finding solitude, remoteness and seclusion, this campsite was going to fit the bill! I had looked at the weather channel Friday afternoon to confirm I wouldn't be trapped miles down a forest road in the middle of a blizzard or snowstorm. The forecast looked promising with temperatures in the low 20's, sunshine both Sunday and Monday, with little to no wind forecasted. Reality set in Saturday morning with dense fog on the drive in, later turning into snow flurries when I reached the forest trails. That was ok with me as it meant less traffic on the main roads.
I completed smoking my first ever Prime Rib Roast over an open fire. My first impression was that I had made a big mistake, however, you will see the final results in the video. It was delicious!
Even though I never saw temperatures like the Weather Channel was predicting, I had a great weekend! I'm so thankful this channel keeps me on track with finding time to reset over the weekends. Tomorrow I will be back at work dreaming of the relaxing time I had in the Chippewa National Forest, and looking forward to where I will be going again next weekend.
