A Patient’s Journey: Application Program Interface (API)

Meaningful Use Stage 3 aims to increase patient engagement and improve patient outcomes by requiring hospitals and health professionals to use certified EHR systems. One focus area for this technology is to provide health care consumers flexibility in how they access their personal health information. With stage 3, patients will have the opportunity to connect to their EHRs using an application of their choosing that is supported by an application programming interface, (or API).
