(Good day everyone)

Hello Wild Hearts! 💚 Today we are shooting our way to the famous Pagsanjan Falls.

Pagsanjan falls is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Philippines. It is found within Cavinti, Laguna, thus it is also called Cavinti Falls. It is also referred to as the Magdapio Falls as a nod to its rich legendary lore.

This waterfall is usually accessed from the town of Pagsanjan by an upstream canoe ride called Shooting the rapids.

Join me on this adventure as we explore the wild path!

The journey starts off gently in  the deeper and calmer part of the river until vertical cliffs starts closing in on both sides as we enter the ravine.

At some point, the skills of the bangkeros, honed by years and years of experience, becomes more apparent. When asked, one of the bangkeros told me that it was their parents that trained them during the summer.

While I am amazed at their skills, I also became aware of the hazard that comes with their job, thus it is important to cooperate while on the canoe.

Halfway to our destination, we passed by the Talahib Falls, a very scenic waterfall pouring gently from the high cliffsWe stayed at the foot of this waterfall for a while then continued our journey upstream. Just a few more minutes of shooting the rapids, we heard an echoing roar.
What stumbled upon us is a 120 m 3 drop waterfall that is so powerful and hypnotic. especially with the sun rays cutting  through the cliffs.

The experience will not be complete if one does not ride the bamboo raft to the Devil’s cave so I did. As we neared the cave, I struggled to breathe since the air was filled with water. I felt like I was drowning! It was a very thrilling experience.

On our way back, I became a bit more used to the canoe ride so I was able to pay more attention to the wildlife as we went downstream. Damselflies would rest on our boats from time to time. There were kingfishers that were busy hunting. There were white egrets as well, a snake skin on the cliff, and most interestingly, monkeys on the cliffs. They were hanging out on a tree and started dispersing as we approached.

These wildlife encounters were such an exciting part of the trip and a reminder for tourists that this place serves as a habitat for these animals and that we should treat it with respect. Each of these animals have their function in nature and that taking care of them means taking care of the place itself. So when you embark on this wild adventure, be a responsible tourist. Never leave trash behind nor attempt to collect, disturb, or hurt the animals, so we can enjoy Pagsanjan Falls for many more years to come.
