Tabriz market is considered the most important and the largest old covered market in Iran and the world, which is located in Tabriz city in Iran. This market has an area of about one square kilometer. Tabriz bazaar was registered in the UNESCO world heritage list in August 2009. The manager of this world complex is Dr. Hossein Esmaili Sangri. Previously, due to the location of the city of Tabriz at the crossroads of the Silk Road and the daily passage of thousands of caravans from different Asian, African and European countries, this city and its market have been very prosperous.
This market was rebuilt about 3 centuries ago and after the historical earthquake of Tabriz in 1193 AD by Najafaqli Khan Danbali, the ruler of Tabriz at that time. Tabriz bazaar was registered in the list of national works of Iran in 1354. The date of construction of this complex is not known; But many tourists who have visited this market from the 4th century AH to the Qajar period have provided information about it.
A series of tourists and world travelers such as Ibn Battuta, Marco Polo, Jackson, Olyai Chalabi, Yaqut Hamavi, Gaspar Droville, Alexis Soktikov, Jean Chardin, Eugene Flanden, John Cartwright, Jamli Cardi, Clavijo, Robert Grant Watson, Hamdallah Mostofi and Magdasio. They have praised the prosperity and glory of Tabriz market.
This bazaar with about 5,500 rooms, shops and stores, 40 types of jobs, 35 houses, 25 timchehs, 30 mosques, 20 streets and markets, 11 hallways, 5 bathrooms and 12 schools, as It is known as the main trading center of the people of Tabriz and Iran.
This collection was registered under the name of Tabriz Market Collection on 25 Shahrivar 1354 with the registration number 1097 as one of the national works of Iran. In 2010, this collection was registered as one of the world heritage of Iran in the world heritage list with the registration number 1346. UNESCO registered. But with a massive fire on 2/19/98, a part of this market collapsed and more than 100 shops burned in devastating flames. This accident left 3 injured and so far this accident was unintentional. This incident was repeated ten years ago.
