Continuing on with my series on making a military rifle stock from scratch, I'm inletting for the action. The goal is to only remove a small amount of material at a time, resulting in a snug fit of the action in the stock. It's a tedious progress involving many test fits along the way. Most of the inletting is done with a plunge router and is fine tuned by hand with chisels. Lipstick is applied the action before it is inserted into the stock blank to show the areas that are touching and need to be removed. After the action is fully at depth, epoxy bedding is applied to select areas to ensure that the action is a tight fit within the stock. Once the basic action is fitted, select parts are added such as the trigger and side plate and then inlet for.
