It has been asked how much water and solute (nutrients, pesticides, pathogens) are moving through the soil? These fluxes have always been hard to quantify. That's why they call it the "black box."
But new precision sensors are transforming traditional measurement methods and opening up all kinds of possibilities. We'll discuss those innovations and examine how new technology is illuminating some of the vadose zone's mysteries.
