Maldives has thousands of islands, in this trip we choose You & Me as our ultimate private romantic getaway destination. You & Me island resort is one of the resorts founded by The Cocoon Collection. This is an adults-only island, with only 99 Overwater Villas & Suites and 10 Beach Suites, perfect for a private experience.
From Velana International Airport, there is a staff assigned to check in our luggage to the seaplane services and shuttle us to Maldivian Seaplane Terminal. This terminal is newer than the international airport and it offers transfer services to more than 80 Maldives resorts. There are snacks and drinks provided in The Cocoon Collection You & Me lounge. Due to the bad weather, our flight was delayed for 5 hours and we had a comfortable time to spend in the lounge. Currently, there are only around 10 private island lounges available for their resort guest to use for free in the terminal so do check on it before choosing your destination as the experience during transfer might go really bad without a lounge.
There are plenty of private islands that can be reached by speedboat if the distance from Male airport is within an hour, which can save a couple bucks. Not necessarily far distance island give you a better experience as there are plenty nice and remarkable resorts example Banyan Tree, Hard Rock and Sheraton are nearer to the airport. Usually seaplane will cost triple the price of the speedboat and we paid 470 USD per guest for one hour flight.
The flight experience is unforgettable! You can watch the flight announcement by pilot in front of you and he needs to bow down because the height of the seaplane is as low as a helicopter. You can see your luggage is right behind you and the pilot flies the seaplane by wearing only a slipper. And of course, the view from the seaplane is absolutely gorgeous! You can see the shadow of the seaplane on the sea and private islands underneath you make the sea around the island shines in tiffany blue colour.
Once landing on the island we were welcomed by the staff and our private host introduced the facilities of the resorts and lead us to our water villa. The room type we stay in is Aqua Suite with Slide. There is only 10 out of 99 overwater villa that have a slide on this island. The curve layout of the overwater villa makes our stay experience more private while all balcony are facing towards an unobstructed sea view. We have a king sized bed overlooking the ocean, sofa, a large outdoor deck to relax and sunbathe with lagoon access and breathtaking sunrise view from our bedroom and bathtub.
We had our first unique experience of teppanyaki not in Japan but in Maldives. There is only two fine dining restaurant on this island and Rising Sun is one of them that serves Japanese cuisine based around an open iron cooktop, where the food is grilled right in front of the customers. The chef has a sense of humour, he is able to make everyone laugh yet he shows very well-trained skills in cooking. The combination of great food and great performance makes our dining experience unforgettable.
