Rislone DEF Crystal Clean™ Diesel DEF & SCR Emissions System Cleaner

If you are working on a diesel truck made after 2010, it will have a Selective Catalyst Reduction system or SCR System. This system uses a mixture of approximately 30 percent urea and 70 percent deionized water to reduce emissions in the exhaust. The urea in the mix has nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon and oxygen that breaks down harmful nitrogen compounds in the diesel exhaust in the presence of the catalytic converter.
If you were to leave the top off of a container of diesel exhaust fluid, or DEF and all of the water evaporated, you would be left with white crystals. Chances are you have seen these crystals around the top of the DEF tank or on the cap. But, the bulk of crystal could be inside the tank or trapped in the tank, pump, heater, sender, lines, injector, decomposition tube and mixer, where you can’t see them.
The thing with crystals is that they have an affinity for similar crystal structures, which can lead to deposits in the SCR system. The crystals can slowly build up and block the flow of exhaust gases and the flow of DEF.
