This regular, mainly traditional English tune session, takes place in the heart of a very traditional rural Devon pub at the Bell at Chittlehampton, Umberleigh, Devon, UK and is one of my favourites. The atmosphere is great. The traditional English folk musicians extend a traditional Devon welcome to acoustic musicians who want to join in and the rural Devon pub audience always seem to be very appreciative.

This regular traditional mainly English pub session at The Bell, Chittlehampton is usually led by members of the excellent ceilidh, folk dance and barn dance band, Bloater Town English Country Dance band so the quality of the musicianship is pretty high. However, last night (Easter Monday 2012), I also spotted the brilliant Rob Murch happily playing away in the corner of the bar. Rob Murch, well known member of The Dartmoor Pixie Band and the Moor Music Trio, plays the 5-String Banjo 'finger-style' and is well known to be one of the finest exponents of this once popular but now rarely heard way of playing the banjo.

Featured also in this video of the session at The Bell Chittlehampton is yours truly, Rockin' Robin, on the soprano saxophone, taking advantage of a kind lady in the audience who said she would do the videoing for me so I could be in the picture for a change.

If you are ever in the Devon area around Chittlehampton near Umberleigh and enjoy listening to or playing traditional English folk tunes in a really traditional English rural pub, why not give the landlord at the Bell a telephone call, find out when the next session is playing and come along, enjoy and perhaps you too will soon be dancing in the aisle :-)
