One of the most scandalous aspects of King of the Hill is of course Joseph Gribble’s parentage. Though he is raised by his mother Nancy and father Dale, everyone knows that his biological father is John Redcorn, whom Nancy had an ongoing affair with for years. Everyone, except Dale, of course. And though this is initially played off as a gag at Dale’s expense, the most suspicious, cynical, paranoid character in the entire show failing to see the obvious conspiracy right under his nose, they use these complicated relationships and character dynamics to great dramatic effect. On one hand, you’ve got a paranoid but loving father with a great relationship to his son, and on the other, a sad man who longs to connect to the son he never really had. So let’s dive into the complicated relationships between Dale, John Redcorn and Joseph Gribble.
