Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) is a native to the cooler southern hill regions of China. Also known as the Chinese Plum and Japanese Plum, this tree has been planted widely across the world and in the US. It is known to produce fruit in multiple climate zones.

I remember finding these fruits as a little kid along side the C-14 canal in Fort Lauderdale with my family. The skin of the fruit is velvety with flavors being sweet, and tart with hints of apricot. Loquats are also high in natural pectin making them a great candidate for preserves!  In some places they eat the fruit while they’re still green too!
