How much gear do you NEED to ride a motorcycle?

One of the first questions a new rider asks is "What gear do I need to ride a motorcycle?". It's a question that has as many answers as riders, but a common suggestion is ATGATT; All The Gear, All The Time. What do those six words actually mean though? And is that the correct way to assess the amount of gear you need before hopping on your motorcycle?

This video discusses the four philosophy's, or Risk Attitudes, motorcyclists have toward gear to help you understand what your risk attitude is, and how others differ.
