Aïn Fakroun is a town and commune in Algeria. According to the 2008 census it has a population of 48,804.
Ain Fakroun is famous for trading ready-made clothes imported from the United Arab Emirates, China and others. The “Ain Fakroun Market for Ready-to-Wear Trade” is located on the road that connects it to Umm El-Bouaghi. It is also famous for its turtle team.
During the French colonization, Ain Fakroun was called Lesser Cairo due to its smallness and the large number of battles in it, especially in its countryside. One of the most important battles was the battle of Foum Al-Mazabi, which lasted about 24 hours, in which several people were martyred. It also incurred heavy losses among the French, where a soldier with the rank of officer was killed in it, in addition to the material losses. This is because of the topography of the region that helped the Mujahideen win over the French, and heavy weapons such as tanks and planes were used in it.
