However, following the ransacking of Carthage by the Romans in 146 BC and the subsequent destruction of their library, scant remnants of Phoenician culture endured. Both the Greeks and Romans portrayed them as sacrificing their daughters to appease their deities. Could this portrayal have been part of a concerted propaganda effort?
