Sick Cliff here (luckily not the rona) coming at you with another epic of ramblings about dated computer components. In this video we build a Core 2 Quad based system in order to determine the usability in 2022. Funnily enough one of my friends was using this platform as his main system until about two years ago when he upgraded to a Ryzen 3000 based build (what an upgrade). In this video I get our CPU, one of the fastest Core 2 Quads ever produced (besides the QX9770 which is rare) installed and running on an Asus P5Q Deluxe. This setup is definitely showing it's age in HW quirks. Some of the components don't seem to work anymore like the additional SATA and IDE ports and that's probably due to the age and wear on the board. After some troubleshooting I was able to get the latest version of Windows 10 64 Bit installed and stable. Full specs are as follows
Asus P5Q Deluxe Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad QX9650 4C/4T @ 3GHz
16GB of DDR2 800MHz (quite rare on an intel board from what I can tell)
GTX 1060 6GB
Adapter 6805 RAID PCIe card
128GB Samsung 830 SSD boot drive
750GB 2.5" WD Black HDD for storage
Creative SB X-fi
Cisco PCI Dual Band Wireless N
Some random Thermaltake tower cooler.
650w Antec PSU
In the next video we will benchmark some games. Spoiler anything modern which requires AVX instructions will not work, but we will try them anyway!
