An estimated hundreds of thousands of people in Beijing live in dark and unsafe underground dwellings, usually disused bomb shelters, parking lots or service tunnels that were never meant for human habitation. Beijing Rat Tribe takes an investigative look the subterranean living conditions of a new type of entrenched social class existing in China's capital, born out of the country's rapid economic growth and migrant culture.
