Filmed this with my iPhone while I was working on it, sorry its a little rough.

In the video I try to show step by step how I converted my 3 season cottage to have running winter water, I never have to drain my pump or tanks, and let me make this clear, when I say 3 season I mean we have a wood burning stove and some space heaters, and the cottage has no insulation what-so-ever. the interior walls are also my exterior walls, approx 1 1/2" thick, the ceiling is vaulted, and the foundation is on blocks. Every time we leave, the cottage interior drops well below freezing.

We use the cottage a lot in the winter, sledding etc. before this system I had to get buckets of water from our well with a hand pump on top of it. I got tired of making trips out to the well, and not being able to have a warm shower. That is what inspired this whole system. The most expensive part is the heat-line that I purchased from Heatline.com, 65' run from my pump house to the dug well.

In a nutshell here is how it works:
All the main water components; pump, pressure tank, water heater, filter, are all inside an insulated box, heated by 2 light bulbs. All my pipes run under the cottage, and all the pipes that are outside this insulated box are wrapped in a heat wrap to prevent them from freezing while they are pressurized.

When I'm not at the cottage I have two valves that I close to cut off the water pressure to the rest of the pipe outside the heated box, I then open the 2 drain valves to let gravity drain the hot and cold water from the exposed pipes. I then have to protect the drain traps and toilet with anti-freeze.

When I'm at the cottage, once warmed up, I plug in my heat wraps, and close the drain two valves, I then pressurize the pipes by opening the 2 main shut off valves.

I now have running water in a 3 season cottage, and the bonus is that I now never have to go through the pain of draining my pump, pressure tank and water heater for the winter, because they are always kept warm.
