CINCINNATI, Ohio (WKRC) - With one shot, many lives were changed.

Justin Holland, 25, died after Kystie Jaehnen fired a single round.

Indiana State Police investigated and cleared her.

Last February, Holland was fighting with an off-duty conservation officer on the side of State Route 56 in Ohio County.

The officer was responding to a report of a suspicious person.

ISP said Holland was reaching for the officer's gun when Jaehnen, who lives nearby, ran to help.

Sergeant William Halbig is a firearms instructor.

He doesn't know Jaehnen but decided to help her when he heard she's now facing a lawsuit.

Holland's family is suing Jaehnen, Officer Michael Powell and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Some of the claims are wrongful death, negligence and battery.

Halbig says the officer's legal fees are covered by his department and the Fraternal Order of Police legal defense fund.

Jaehnen's supporters don't want Holland's family attacked for the lawsuit but they do want to protect a woman they see as a good Samaritan.

An autopsy showed numerous drugs in Holland's system.

Neither the Holland family or their lawyer responded when asked for a comment.
