[Links in description] I absolutely love the new Edwards X-13 trumpet and we just got one into the shop! We're so excited to be opening up as dealers for Edwards and Getzen, because the instruments are fantastic! Yesterday at the shop I was playtesting this horn against some of the horns in my collection and some of the other great horns we have in stock. This horn definitely holds its own! The connectivity and fluidity from note to note is just awesome on the X-13. It's so much fun to play around on this horn. It really has everything you could want in a trumpet sound!

You can order it here on our web store: https://www.austincustombrass.biz/edw...

The X-13 is a fresh take on trumpet design. From a distance this might look like some of the heavier trumpets on the market, but this is a lightweight trumpet. There are actually a lot of design elements that reduce the weight of this horn, making it extremely responsive. It's one of the most responsive trumpets I've ever played.

In the 1960s and '70s there was a trend towards "skeletonized" trumpet designs that were very light weight and responsive. It's a great design for playing with a microphone. In the mid 1980s the trend was towards heavier horns and thicker sounds, influenced by players like Wynton Marsalis. Then in the late '90s preferences started moving back towards more moderately weighted horns. This horn uses some of the best ideas from those trends.

You'll see that this trumpet looks a little bit shorter that most trumpets. That's due to the wider wrap of the horn (similar to the wrap of the Conn Connstellation design). Check out the curve of the bell and the tuning slide! The finger buttons and top caps are designed to reduce the weight of the horn. The inner valves are also designed for reduced weight.

The tuning slide is a completely unique design. It's not the ovated slide you see on a Monette or the Adams A1 for instance. It also has the unipillar resonance enhancers, which definitely affect the sound and response of the horn. It helps to mellow out the sound a little. Can you hear a difference on these clips? Let us know in the comments.

The bell diameter isn't too large, it gives you good response behind the horn while still having a directional sound out into the room. One issue with some of larger diameter bells at 5.5" or more is that the sound shape really spreads out in front of the bell. This horn bridges the gap between player feedback and directionality of the sound shape. It also helps that the wrap brings the bell a little closer to you as a player.

This horn works great with a variety of mouthpieces. It really lights up in the upper register with a lead mouthpiece. I've really been liking our new KGU booster sleeve with my acrylic mouthpiece top. This is a great addition if you play one of our acrylic tops because it's specially designed for our mouthpiece shape:  https://www.austincustombrass.biz/acb...
