But before we get deeper into this subject I’d like to take a second of your time to say that we opened up a discord server, the link will be in the comments and in the description so if you would like to join a community with a lot of tank enthousiasts you are more then welcome to join us there, when you join within the first 5 days of this video’s release you get a special rank named “Pre-2k” to show you followed learning History Together before the 2 thousand subscribers. After those 4 days you cannot earn that rank anymore.

Anyway that’s enough about that let’s get back to the subject at hand. We will talk mostly about the SturmPanzer IV, in 1942 Albert Speer placed a order for a howitzer to be placed on a tank chassis this was so that it could keep up with the Panzer Divisions, this order was received by Alkett, for this AFV the Chassis of the Panzer IV was used, at it was fitted with a 15cm howitzer StuH 43 /12, the Sturmpanzer could carry up to 38 rounds in the castmate and the hull, it had one secondary armament and this was a MG34 this was fastend to the Open Gunners Hatch, this was done in the same as it was for the Stug III Ausf. G, The earlier Versions also had MP 40 Submachine guns onboard intended to fire through two firing ports on each side of the Super structure.
The Sturmpanzer was decently armoured, it had a fontal armour thickness of 100mm and this was placed at a 40 degree angle, for the Front Hull it was 50mm at a 15 degree angle, for the side of the superstructure it was 30mm this was the same for the hull, and the rear was 20mm. and for the back of the hull it was 10mm I found a picture of the armour values but I found that it wasn’t extremely reliable so I decided to leave it out.

It weighed 28 Tonnes it was almost 6 meters long, almost 2.9 meters wide and just over 2.5 meters tall, this allowed it to have 5 crew members in there, these consisted off the Commander, Gunner, 2 Loaders and one Driver, The Sturmpanzer was outfitted with a Maybach HL 120, this was the same engine as was used in the Nashorn tank Destroyer we’ve discussed previously, link to that video in the top right corner, this allowed it to have a top speed of 40 kph on the road and off road this was reduced to 24 kph, and the Sturmpanzer had a operational range of 210 kilometers.
