You may like it, you may not, but there was a better way. People argue about how much they hate it, as I certainly have, or how much they love it, but not many people talk about a compromise that would have satisfied both sides. The best of both worlds. A way you could automate wars if you wanted to, OR micro every unit if you wanted to. To provide the economy, diplomacy and politics that singleplayer-oriented people wanted, while giving the tryhard multiplayer community units to throw at each other in epic Great Wars. If we take a trip down memory lane back to 2019, we might find to our surprise that this was essentially what people were asking for.

The main point of this video is to argue for the compromise, but it also touches on many of the other aspects surrounding Victoria 3's war system. Some of the arguments for it, the history of Victoria 3's development, and the fact that it was difficult for Paradox to make. I also explain where I come from; the Victoria 2 multiplayer community, and why this matters. We weren't listened to, but we should have been. At the end, I show that (either intentionally, or unintentionally) One Proud Bavarian's “crackpot theory” video worked wonders as a Public Relations stunt to convince people to support the radical, experimental new war system.
