In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - maritime historian at Campbell University and former merchant mariner - discusses the introduction of the new Viking Mississippi.  The ship is built to a modified Viking Longship design, different than the vessels they operate in Europe, but have some new features not seen on American river cruise boats.  We also examine the issue of how this ship meets the requirement of the Jones Act and the Passenger Vessel Service Act due to Viking Cruises being a Switzerland based company and how the ship differs from its main competitor - American Cruise Lines.
