One of the most iconic landmarks of Jaipur is the Nahargarh Fort, which stands tall on the Aravalli Hills overlooking the city. Built in the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, this fort has played a significant role in shaping the city's history and culture. Nahargarh Fort is strategically built on the Aravalli Hills, providing a vantage point to keep an eye on the surrounding areas. It also served as a retreat for the royal family during times of war. The fort was named after Nahar Singh, a prince whose spirit was believed to haunt the area and cause disturbances. The fort was built to appease his spirit and protect the city from any harm.

Nahargarh Fort is a fine example of Rajput architecture, with its intricate designs and grandeur. The fort is a blend of Mughal and Rajput styles, with its domes, arches, and delicate carvings. The fort also houses several palaces, temples, and gardens, showcasing the opulence of the royal family. The fort's walls are adorned with beautiful frescoes and paintings, depicting scenes from Hindu mythology and the royal family's life. The fort has been a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from all over the world to witness its grandeur and learn about its history. The fort also hosts several cultural events, including music and dance performances, art exhibitions, and food festivals.

The ticket for the historical fort of Nahargarh costs ₹50 for Indian nationals. For foreign tourists, the cost goes up to ₹200 (US$2.50). Students enjoy discounted prices. For foreign students, the ticket costs ₹50 (63¢ US), and ₹25 for Indian students.

Nahargarh fort is open from 10:00 and the gates of the fort closes in the evening at 17.30. The visitors are not advised to stay any later than that because the fort is surrounded by dense deciduous forest. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the fort from the main city.
